Melanie Park

Associate Professor of Education

Dr. Melanie Park joined the Huntington University faculty in 2017. She currently teaches courses in educational psychology, classroom management, technology integration, and methods for writing instruction. In addition, Melanie supervises teacher candidates during their practicum experiences and serves as the assessment coordinator for the education department.

Prior to accepting a position in higher education, Melanie taught middle school reading remediation at Riverview Middle School in Huntington. She has also served as an elementary school project challenge teacher for gifted and talented students, a sixth-grade language arts teacher, and a first-grade teacher. In 2012, she was honored as the Indiana Teacher of the Year and served a year in residence for the Indiana Department of Education.

Melanie Park holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University, Master of Science in Education from Indiana University, and a Doctor of Education from Walden University. Her doctorate had an emphasis on literacy leadership, and her dissertation focused on the professional development needs of middle school teachers for information, communication, and technology literacy integration.

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, she currently resides in Huntington with her husband, Steve, a biology and AP Environmental Science teacher at the local high school. Her son, Nathan, is a rescue swimmer in the Coast Guard, and her daughter, Maggie is pursuing a master’s degree in counseling at Abilene Christian University in Texas.

In her spare time, Melanie enjoys writing, and has recently completed the first draft of a book of devotions entitled, Divine Descent. Melanie and her husband enjoy traveling, biking, kayaking, and hiking. Melanie Park considers teaching not just a profession, but a calling—an honor she cherishes as she molds the next generation of educators.
