Alongside with the theme of “child will lead”, this semester signs and wonders will present films by renowned Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski, who has won numerous awards throughout his career such as Canne, Berlin, Venice etc. He has also been Acadamy Award nominate in 1995 for Best Director and Best Writing. Every Thursday the signs and wonders will show one of his movies from “The Three Colors Trilogy” and “The Decalog”, and we would like to briefly introduce his films before the presentation. |

This semester our theme for Sunday nights is "The Little Child Will Lead Them" . The image comes from the famous passage in Isaiah 11 where the lion lays down with the lamb. In my mind it is also reminiscent of Luke 17 where Jesus reminds us that the Kingdom of God belongs to "such as these". While our tendency is to associate these passages with an idyllic destination the journey itself is often fraught with darkness, pain and the uncertainty of our current condition. If this were not so there would be no need for the child to lead us at all. Whether through innocence, inherent vulnerability or second sight, in each film it is the child who finds a narrow path, while the wisdom of her elders leads only to confusion, denial and even destruction. |
