Dr. John Townsend

Dr. John Townsend, a leadership coach, psychologist and organizational consultant, has been helping leaders, organizations and individuals make changes and exceed their goals for more than two decades. His expertise in psychology and leadership help him provide solutions for people in many venues. He has written or co-written 26 books, totaling 6 million in sales, including the 2 million selling bestseller Boundaries, Handling Difficult People, and, most recently, Leadership Beyond Reason. His award-winning books have earned three Gold Medallions and the Retailers Choice award for a book and television venture with Time-Life and Integrity Publishers. He is a sought-after conference speaker.

Dr. Townsend is highly experienced in a variety of media, including both television appearances and radio, including cohosting the nationally-syndicated talk show New Life Live, heard in 180 markets with an audience of 3 million. He has been interviewed on Fox News television, and his advice has been published in magazines such as Cosmopolitan.

Dr. Townsend founded and built a health care company which operated inpatient and outpatient treatment centers for ten years in the western part of the U.S., totaling 35 cities. He was also Clinical Director during that period. The clinical program was researched and the results published in the professional world. During the company’s tenure, he learned and produced the principles and strategies of success and change that he now uses in his writing, speaking, consulting and media.

As a partner in Cloud-Townsend Resources, Dr. Townsend has produced and spoken at many public seminars and conferences nationally on a variety of topics, ranging from leadership and success to personal growth, relationships and spirituality. His talks are often linked down by satellite to thousands of live venues.
John is on the Board of Advisors of the New Canaan Society. He is also Clinical Director of the American Association of Christian Counselors, and is a visiting professor at Dallas Seminary. He is active on the board of Mustard Seed Ranch, a residential program for abused children.

Dr. Townsend works with leaders and organizations in a number of ways, including team and key executive coaching, corporate consulting, training workshops, and speaking at conferences. He personally conducts his own Leadership Coaching Programs in Newport Beach, CA, Dallas, TX and Indianapolis, IN.
John holds a BA in psychology from North Carolina State University, a Masters in Theology from Dallas Seminary, and a Ph.D. In Clinical Psychology from Biola University. A resident of Newport Beach, California, Dr. Townsend and his wife Barbi have two sons. One of John’s passions is playing in a band that performs at southern California lounges and venues.
