Senior Social Work Major
Why JMC: I have volunteered with JMC my first three years of college and love serving others and Christ. JMC will give me a bigger opportunity to serve others. I also wanted to learn more about different social service agencies that we work with. Favorite volunteer experience: This past January I had the opportunity to go to Romania for my Junior Practicum. I was able to volunteer with kindergarteners, teens and elderly. This trip opened my eyes to different needs of the world. One of my favorite parts of this trip was playing with the kindergarteners, watching them talk even though there was a language barrier and singing songs together in English and Romanian.

Why JMC: I have always loved serving people, and became interested in student leadership at the end of my sophomore year, so JMC was the natural choice Favorite volunteer experience: Mission trip to Mexico during my senior year of High School - I spent a week covered in paint, loving like Jesus, speaking Spanglish, and eating tamales.

Sophomore History Major
Why JMC: I really wanted to get more involved with volunteering in the Huntington community as well as letting others who felt the same way know more ways to volunteer too. Favorite volunteer experience: Working with a group in Chicago, I met with this lady who told me her story about how she was truly able to rise out of her past and work for an amazing future for her grandchildren through Christ. I always hear stories about triumph, but nothing that really hit me like this. It made me realize why volunteering was so worth it.

Sophomore Public Relations and Communications Studies Double Major
Why JMC: I joined JMC to help spread the joy of one of my favorite things, helping people. Also, Jesus had the heart of a servant and I want to be a servant to my fellow people and I saw JMC as the best way for me to do that. Favorite volunteer experience: While working on a fundraising campaign for Charity: Water last J-Term, I was giving a speech about the project and as part of a demo, I drank some Lake Sno-tip water to demonstrate the kinds of water people are forced to drink daily. We got a lot of attention and donations from that stunt, but I felt a little sick the rest of the night!

Junior Psychology and Sociology Major
Why JMC: I've gone on multiple JMC break trips and fell in love with the program as a whole. I knew it was something that I wanted to get involved in because it would be a way that I could use the gifts God's blessed me with to meet the needs of others. I'm very excited to be used by God this amazing opportunity. Favorite Volunteer Experience: My favorite volunteer experience would have to be all of the break trips I've been on thus far. Each one holds meaning and its own unique impact on my life. If I chose one favorite, it would be the trip to Benton Harbor my freshman year for fall break. It was after that trip that I realized I wanted to get more involved with JMC and with volunteering as a whole. I have a passion for people and a desire to spread Christ's love. <3

Why JMC: I wanted to join JMC to be a part of growing the serving community at Huntington. Serving others is a major part of developing a loving lifestyle and I want to be a part of helping others to grow. Through some of the opportunities that JMC offers, students (and other participants) can become more of a disciple by serving others and spreading the love of God. Favorite Volunteer Experience: My favorite missions experience would be a mission trip i participated in at the Children's Home of Easton in Easton, PA in 2007. Its a home for children and minors who are wards of the state. We worked on a service project (painting the inside walls of a house owned by the home) during the day and were with junior high boys at night. It was amazing to see them go from being completely distrusting at the beginning of the week to crying when we left at the end of the week. |
