Huntington, Ind.—Huntington University has achieved a record-breaking overall enrollment of 1,250 students for the fall 2009 semester.

“Having a growing enrollment in the midst of a difficult economy is an incredible blessing,” said Dr. G. Blair Dowden, president. “We appreciate that our students continue to see the value in pursuing a high-quality, Christ-centered education.”

The total enrollment is a 3 percent increase over the fall of 2008. This includes 1,031 traditional undergraduates—a new record—plus 119 students in the EXCEL Adult Degree Programs and 100 students enrolled in the Huntington University Graduate School.

The Christian liberal arts college enrolled 314 new full-time traditional undergraduate students, including first-time freshmen and transfer students.

Ethnic minorities comprise 5 percent of student population. While 64 percent of all students are Indiana residents, the student body includes representatives of 37 different states. In addition, there are 28 international students representing 14 countries.

The university has strong local appeal as well. Of the students on campus this fall, 219 hail from Huntington County.

This fall, Huntington University received a number of accolades and honors. U.S.News & World Report ranked Huntington No. 6 among the Midwest’s “Best Baccalaureate Colleges” and No. 5 among the “Best Values” in Midwestern baccalaureate colleges.

In addition, Forbes.com placed Huntington University on its Top 100 list of America’s Best Colleges for the second time. Huntington was one of only five schools in Indiana to earn that distinction.

The Princeton Review also named Huntington a “Best Midwestern College” for the second consecutive year.
