Dreams come true at the Super Bowl

Student finds internship with halftime show
Andrew Malloy 2012

When I found out that they were looking for volunteers to help out with the halftime show, I didn’t hesitate to apply. It didn’t really matter to me what they needed me to do, I just wanted to be a part of the largest televised production in whatever small way I could be.

So many people dream about going to the Super Bowl every year. How exciting would it be, after all? But imagine this … you are working at it. You get to meet people who have worked in your dream industry for years and have worked with big name celebrities such as Kenny Chesney or Beyoncé or the Rolling Stones. Wouldn’t that be great?

That’s exactly what Andrew Malloy got to do his junior year of college. Malloy is a business management major with minors in economics and youth ministries.

He has had a passion for music as long as he can remember. He began volunteering at concerts and different music events at a young age and that passion grew stronger. That is why the opportunity to volunteer at the Super Bowl halftime show was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and one Andrew just couldn’t pass up.

“I have a huge passion for music and the power that it has. As this passion began to grow, I started volunteering at concerts and music events trying to gain experience and to just be around the environment,” he said. “When I found out that they were looking for volunteers to help out with the halftime show, I didn’t hesitate to apply. It didn’t really matter to me what they needed me to do, I just wanted to be a part of the largest televised production in whatever small way I could be.”

In preparation for the show, Malloy was more than happy to do anything asked of him, and it didn’t go unnoticed. Some employees told him after the game that they really respected when a volunteer was willing to do even the most mundane tasks. They said that it was respectable because they all started out that way too.

This will not be an experience that he will soon forget.
