HUNTINGTON, IN -- Dr. Paul Michelson and a delegation of five Huntington College students will attend the Region V Convention of Alpha Chi this weekend at Anderson University. The Huntington chapter of the national college honor society will be one of five in the region to be presented with the 1995 Alpha Chi Star Chapter Award at the meeting.

The student representatives this weekend will include Kayleen Bowker of Roanoke; Sara Kimlick of New Paris; Aaron LaTurner of Decatur; Trent Kreischer of Convoy, Ohio; and Shelly Small of Franklin, Pennsylvania. Bowker is the Huntington chapter's regional scholarship competition nominee. She will present the concepts and theory behind a elementary classroom thematic unit she has developed on "Factories."

Alpha Chi is a national organization of over 300 chapters. Election to Alpha Chi is the highest academic recognition at Huntington College. Faculty elect 12 to 15 students each year based on high academic achievement, outstanding character and commitment to active participation and support of local chapter activities. Membership is limited to no more than the top 10% of the junior and senior classes.

"Membership in Alpha Chi is not merely a recognition of achievement," said Dr. Paul Michelson, distinguished professor of history at Huntington College and chapter sponsor. "It is also a commitment to promoting academic excellence and to participation in activities designed to enhance the intellectual and cultural life of the campus." Michelson serves as secretary-treasurer of Region V and is a member of the National Council of Alpha Chi.
