Huntington, Ind. — Huntington University has launched four new degree programs for the fall semester.

In conjunction with the campus’ capital campaign and a mission to provide new and innovation programs to an ever-changing student body, the university will now offer a Bachelor of Science degree in studio art, a Bachelor of Science degree in graphic design, a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise and movement science and a Bachelor of Science degree in sport and exercise studies.

These majors join the more than 70 academic programs offered on campus, and help to further the mission of Together: The Campaign for Huntington University.

Through the $21 million “Together” campaign, $1.5 million is planned for digital and visual arts; $9.5 million for the MCPER; $3 million for the University Fund; and $2 million is planned to increase the university’s current endowment and $5 million is planned for deferred giving commitments.

The Bachelor of Science degree in studio art is geared toward students serious about becoming professional artists or pursuing graduate-level study. Students will develop knowledge, skills, concepts and sensitivities essential to the professional life of an artist. The studio art program is a professional undergraduate degree which broadens the studio art experience needed for post-graduate study.

The Bachelor of Science degree in graphic design will replace and expand on the university’s former Bachelor of Arts degree to meet the needs of a new generation. The degree expands the depth and breadth of the program to better prepare students for careers after graduation.

The Bachelor of Science degree in exercise and movement science and the Bachelor of Science degree in sport and exercise studies are expansions and innovations of the university’s former applied exercise science degree. The exercise and movement science program will prepare students for positions in fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, allied health and medicine as well as providing a strong foundation for graduate school. The sport and exercise studies major will prepare students for careers in fields such as personal training, strength and conditioning, corporate wellness and coaching as well as providing a strong foundation for graduate school.
