Northridge Middle School wins Huntington University Middle School Mathematics Competition

 Huntington, Ind.—Northridge Middle School in Middlebury, Ind., was the winner of the annual Huntington University Middle School Mathematics Competition which was held on April 21 on campus. Edgewood Middle School in Warsaw, Ind., took second place, and Riverview Middle School in Huntington, Ind., was awarded third.

The top three individual winners were Corbin Bullock from Northridge Middle School, who took first; Grant Carlson from Edgewood Middle School, who took second; and Audrey Grewe from Northridge Middle School, who took third.

There were 18 schools that competed this year. The goal of the competition was to support and encourage the efforts of students seeking to achieve in mathematics.

The competition is made up of three rounds. The first round is a 20-question algebra, geometry and general mathematics written exam where students can earn a total of 100 points. The individual round is made up of 10 questions where students are given a minute and a half to complete each question. Correct answers earn students 10 points. During the final round, the team round, students are provided with five problems that are more challenging and are best solved through the cooperative efforts of the team. A total of 50 points is possible.
