Music Department launches 2003 Spring Tour

FOR RELEASE
2003-03-06
The Huntington College Concert Choir, Handbell Choir, and Brass Quartet will present 2003 Spring Tour concerts in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee, March 13-23, 2003.

The 35-voice choir under the direction of conductor, Dr. George Killian, will continue its proud tradition of sharing the Word of God through song. In recent years, the Concert Choir performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of John Rutter. The Concert Choir also performed at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. and gained an international reputation for choral excellence during a Canadian tour in 2001.

Each Fall Semester, the Concert Choir is among the Music Department’s featured ensembles in the Church Music Concert where they perform a major choral work with orchestra. During the Christmas season, the choir joins with community members to perform a large portion of Handel’s Messiah.

The Huntington College Handbell Choir of 11 musicians will tour with the Concert Choir. They will accompany the Concert Choir on several selections and will be featured on several works by themselves.

The ensemble’s repertory will include a wide variety of mostly sacred works including classical selections by Palestrina and Gibbons, and works by Vaughan Williams, Nystedt, Clausen, and Hogan, hymn arrangements and spirituals.

Now in his second year at Huntington College, Dr. George Killian, serves as the Director of Choral Activities and Music Education. He holds degrees from Anderson University, Ball State University, and Arizona State University. Dr. Killian maintains an active schedule as guest conductor and clinician.

The Music Department has dedicated this year's Spring Tour in loving memory of Katie Kobelski, a member of the choir and handbell ensemble, who passed away March 10, 2003. For further information, download the tour program in Acrobat PDF format.
