The NAIA 8th-ranked Pilots of Bethel College (35-3) got two dominant performances on the mound to sweep a doubleheader 10-2 and 1-0 while allowing the Foresters just one hit in two games.
In the opener, HU scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Pilots quickly bounced back to take control of the game with a five-run second inning. Ashley McCann got the Foresters' lone hit of the day with an RBI single in the fourth, but again Bethel answered with five more runs in the bottom of the inning. When HU failed to score in the top of the fifth, the game ended early at 10-2.
Molly Long took the loss, but was not helped by her defense which committed four errors and led to five unearned runs. She gave up seven hits and a walk and struck out three.
Game two was a pitchers' duel which saw both teams combine for only three hits. Unfortunately for the Foresters, all three belonged to the other team. The difference in the game was a solo homerun by Bethel's Kaitlyn Dubios in the fifth inning which provided the Pilots all the offense they would need.
Rachel Zirille no-hit HU for the 1-0 shutout. Lauren Ward went the distance in the loss for the Foresters. She allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven.
With the two losses, the Foresters fall to 15-11 on the season and a 3-5 in conference play.
