Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington University Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of September 19-25, 2005. Soccer sophomore Sarah Kaufman and men’s golf freshman Justin Imel earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.
Sarah Kaufman, a sophomore from Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Central High School), became the Foresters’ all-time leading scorer with a career-high four goals against Hanover College. After just a year and a half of competition at the collegiate level, Kaufman netted her 26th goal off an assist from Shannon Holly in Huntington’s 4-1 win over Hanover College on Saturday. She also became the program’s top point scorer tallying 66 points to date. Her efforts also earned her Mid-Central Conference Player of the Week honors. The Foresters are now 3-5 on the season and next travel to Spring Arbor University on Wednesday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m.
Justin Imel, a business major from Markle, Ind. (Norwell High School), helped lead the Foresters to their second win of the season at the Grace College Invitational held at Stonehenge Country Club. He shot a 37 on the front and a 44 on the back for an 81, the team’s second best score of the day. In Thursday’s match at Rock Hollow, Imel posted the lowest score of his young career with a team-best 77. The Foresters next host the Forester Fall Invitational at LaFontaine Golf Club on Friday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 52 NAIA All-America honors and 102 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
