Benedict named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of January 13, 2014. Men’s basketball freshman Drew Benedict earned the honor for his outstanding efforts this past weekend.

It was a career day for Benedict as he poured in 22 points in #20 Huntington’s 81-63 win over Goshen on Saturday afternoon at Platt Arena. The Columbia City native made his living behind the 3-point arc where he drained seven treys. Just before half, he was fouled on this third triple and successfully drained the free throw to register a rare four-point play.

In addition to his 22 points, Benedict also handed out six assists and committed just one turnover in 25 minutes of action. To date, the 5-9 sharp-shooter has knocked down 30 threes and is ranked 42nd in NAIA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage at 42.9 percent.

The Foresters (15-3, 5-1), currently tied for the top spot in the league standings, travel to Bethel College on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off with the Pilots.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S.News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest.
