Cook, Moniz earn Athlete of the Week honors

Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College athletics department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of September 8-14, 2003. Women’s volleyball senior Miranda Cook and men’s soccer sophomore Paulo Moniz earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Miranda Cook, a public relations major from Peru, Ind. (Maconaquah High School), led the Forester volleyball team through three games last week with 40 kills, nine blocks and five aces. In the Forester win against Taylor-Fort Wayne on Tuesday, Cook submitted team-high honors in three categories with 18 kills, four blocks and two aces. The Foresters are next in action on Friday and Saturday, September 19-20, at the Olivet Nazarene Tournament in Kankakee, Illinois.

Paulo Moniz

Paulo Moniz, a junior exercise science major from Pawtucket, R.I. (Charles E. Shea High School), scored the loan goal in the Foresters’ first victory of the season on Friday against Malone College. Assisted by teammate Denis Dreni, Moniz found the back of the net in the 40th minute of play. The Foresters will travel to Grace College on Tuesday, September 16, for a 4 o’clock game.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women and hold membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
