Davenport, Taylor named Forester Athletes of Week

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of March 23-29. Women’s track senior Lauren Davenport and men’s baseball senior Drew Taylor earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Lauren Davenport, an exercise science major from Andrews, Ind. (Huntington North High School), ran away from the field to win the 800 meter race at the VMI—W&L Track & Field Carnival in Lexington, Va. Her time of 2:13.36 broke the school record and automatically qualified her to compete in the event at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Edwardsville, Ill. on May 21-23. The Foresters return to action at the Manchester College Invitational on April 4 at 11 a.m.

Drew Taylor
Drew Taylor, a recreation management major from Kokomo, Ind. (Kokomo High School), had an outstanding week with three wins on the mound for Huntington. Taylor pitched a one-hit shutout for a complete game 11-0 victory over Goshen. At home against NAIA 9th-ranked Spring Arbor, he threw a third of the seventh inning in relief to pick up his second win, and on the road at Spring Arbor, Taylor again went the distance to earn the 8-5 victory. He allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out two. The Foresters (12-9, 5-1) next play host to the St. Francis Cougars on March 31 at 4:30 p.m.
