LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Up against some of the top teams in the country, the Forester women’s bowling team claimed 6th place out of 12 teams at the Boilermaker Classic this past weekend.
Of the five teams that finished ahead of HU, four of the squads were ranked in the top 25 in Collegebowling.com’s most recent poll including top-ranked Lindenwood and #2 Robert Morris. The Foresters, currently ranked No. 36 in the Collegebowling.com standings, beat 11th-ranked Davenport by 112 pins.
Huntington bowled a 4426 in Saturday’s five regular team games behind Shelby New’s 191.8 average. The rookie finished 7th individually out of 158 bowlers. Leigha Lindsey also turned in a fantastic performance, averaging a 191.0 to finish two spots behind her classmate in 9th while Cassandra Griffith claimed 25th with a 174.0 average.
Brooke Ewing averaged 159.3 for four games, Emily O’Leary tossed a 177.0 average for three games and Caitlin Pidgeon (192), Emerald Leong (144) and Ayla Yeiter (138) each bowled one game.
On Sunday, HU racked up 2638 pins in their Baker games to finish with a grand total of 7064.
Lindenwood finished with 7627 pins to win the tournament followed by Robert Morris (7588), Calumet College of St. Joe (7390), Mount Mercy (7260), Indiana Tech (7243), HU (7064), Davenport (6952), Lindenwood Belleville (6680), Morehead State (6588), Bellarmine (6539), Aquinas (6044) and Spalding (5747).
Huntington is back in action this weekend when they travel to Georgia for the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic.
