The Forester women opened their season at the St. Ambrose Tournament in Davenport, Iowa and fell to the hosts 80-72 in the championship game. HC got off to a hot start hitting seven of their first 10 shots to take a 19-11 lead eight minutes into the half, but the Fighting Bees size advantage began to take its toll on the Foresters. With four starters picking up two fouls apiece, the Foresters lost the momentum and went into the intermission down 41-35. In the second half, St. Ambrose increased its lead to as many as 13, but HC would not go away. The Foresters battled back to within four at 66-62, but couldn’t come up with the big baskets when they needed them. The Fighting Bees’ 6’3 center led all scorers in the game with 23 points. HC was led by Jamie Grogg’s 20 points and 11 rebounds. Amy Berry added 18 points and Betsey Bean chipped in 15. Following the game, both Grogg and Berry were named to the All-Tournament Team.
