The Huntington University women's tennis team lost 6-1 in their spring season opener against Indiana Institute of Technology on Wednesday.
Up against a talented Warrior team, the Foresters' lone win came at #2 singles where Raelyn Althoff defeated Alekandra Sposic 7-6, 7-5.
In other singles action, Haley Niederhiser (#1) battled but came up short, 6-0, 1-6, 7-6, Kelsey Mark fell at #3 and Erica Abel (#5) retired in the first set. In doubles play, Niederhiser and Althoff lost 4-8 at #1, Kristen Lahman and Mark suffered a 3-8 loss at #2 and Abel and Lauren Sunderman (#3) were edged out 8-9.
"Indiana Tech has a strong men and women's tennis program which is why we wanted to play them," said Coach Ferguson. "Although the match scores don't show it, both our men and women played hard and contested each and every point. At this point in our off season that's what I was looking for."
