Peaking at just the right time, the Forester softball
team grabbed two more wins against Trine University, 1-0 and 6-2, to to improve their overall record to 19-17.
Game one featured two of the best pitchers in the area so not surprisingly offense was hard to come by for either team but it was the Foresters who made the most of their opportunities. After five scoreless innings, Aubrey Garner's RBI-double plated the game-winning run. Behind a solid defense, Molly Long pitched a gem allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out ten.
The Foresters carried their momentum into the nightcap as they opened up play with four runs in their first at-bats and then added insurance runs in the third and sixth to take a comfortable 6-0 lead. The Thunder got one back in the bottom of the seventh but HU's defense got the job done to squelch any hope of a Trine come-from-behind victory.
Stacie Rawnsley picked up the win on the mound. In four innings of work she gave up one run on seven hits and one walk. Brita Kuiper went 3-for-4 from the plate to lead the Foresters.
