Former Forester named to Basketball Hall of Fame

 Former HU women’s basketball standout, Chanda (Reeves) Cooley, was recently one of eighteen women named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2011 Silver Anniversary Team. Chanda is being honored for her outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago.

A 1986 graduate of Bluffton High School, Chanda was a three-time MVP and NEIAC First Team selection. She graduated as Bluffton’s all-time leading scorer with 1,328 career points. As a senior she was a Hoosier Basketball Girls First Team All-State pick and named Bluffton High School’s Outstanding Female Athlete.

After a successful career at Bluffton, Chanda brought her talents to Huntington College. She helped lead the Foresters to four MCC titles and four NCCAA National Tournament appearances. For her outstanding play, Chanda received numerous accolades which included being named MCC First Team All-Conference in her final two years of competition. She was also an NCCAA Second Team All-American and NCCAA Scholar Athlete selection as a senior. She graduated in 1990 with 917 career points and a cumulative record of 86-39. She averaged 9.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists throughout her Forester years.

Chanda is currently the Assistant Aquatic Director at Homestead High School. She will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Annual Women’s Banquet on Saturday, April 30, at the Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 53 NAIA All-America honors and 173 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
