Former NBA player to speak at Huntington Reach Out Rally

FOR RELEASE
2004-02-18
Huntington, Ind.— Bay Forrest, a former NBA (National Basketball Association) player, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 2004 Huntington Reach Out Rally. The rally, sponsored by various Huntington County churches, will take place on March 1, 2004, at 7 p.m., in the Huntington North High School auditorium. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

After three years of playing basketball in the NBA, a back injury forced Forrest into early retirement from a game he had played all of his life. Forrest now serves with Kingdom Building Ministries, an evangelical Christian, parachurch organization that partners with churches, universities, denominations and other ministry organizations. Kingdom Building Ministries challenges and equips Christians to grow deeper and more committed in their relationship with Christ, and to serve Him through a daily life of personal ministry.

Forrest’s bio on the Kingdom Building Ministries web site states, “To those who had seen his powerful witness and testimony on the basketball court, it was no surprise that Bay would leave the game gracefully and serve in full-time ministry. He spent seven years following his retirement as a youth pastor and retreat speaker, then taking his family to Kenya, East Africa, to serve with Africa Inland Mission for five years. While Bay’s size, in itself, is captivating, his gift as a dynamic communicator is what God uses to change the hearts of so many. Through his use of practical Bible application, graphic story telling, and humorous illustrations, Bay is able to fulfill his desire to see individuals move into a deeper walk with Christ and begin serving as true Kingdom laborers. Bay began his speaking ministry with Kingdom Building Ministries in the mid 1990’s. Today he speaks across the United States at various functions to Christians and non-Christians alike.”

Dr. Gary Newton, professor of educational ministries at Huntington College and pastor of Union Church, is the director of the 2004 Huntington Reach Out Rally. “I have had the opportunity to have Bay Forrest speak at our church. His almost seven-foot stature and numerous stories rivet the attention of his listeners.”

Following the rally, attendees are invited to visit booths of various Huntington churches, which will publicize the various programs and services offered. For more information about the Rally, contact Newton at (260) 359-4111.
