HUNTINGTON, Ind. - While on paper it looked like the Forester women’s soccer team owned the upper hand in Wednesday’s match at King Stadium, the bottom line indicated something completely different as the Maple Leafs of Goshen College came away with a 2-1 win to hand HU their second consecutive conference loss.
Huntington (3-9) drops to 2-2 in league play for a share of fifth in the Crossroads standing. For Goshen, it was their first conference victory as they improve to 1-3 in the CL, 6-6 overall.
The Foresters doubled up Goshen in shots taken, 16-8, but the Maple Leafs proved to be more productive with their opportunities. They took a 1-0 lead within the first 20 minutes and after over 55 minutes of scoreless soccer, GC found back netting again in the 78th minute.
It proved to be the game-winner as just over a minute later, Becca Grimes blasted one far post, her first goal of the season, to pull HU within one at 2-1. While it gave new life to Coach Tillett’s squad, it was too little too late as the Maple Leafs were able to ride out the win.
Caitlin Adams took the loss in goal. She tallied four saves.
HU will take the field again on Saturday when they host Marian at noon.
