Playing in their third double overtime game of the season, the HU men's soccer
team came up short, losing to Saint Francis 3-2.
Sophomore Brandon Gamble took advantage of a Cougar foul in the box at the 37:29 mark by netting a goal off a penalty kick to give HU the 1-0 advantage heading into intermission. The Foresters couldn't ward of the Cougars who came out with a vengeance in the second period, scoring two goals in the first eleven minutes to quickly steal the momentum and take the 2-1 lead. HU's equalizer came in the 75th minute when Tyler Holbein made good on the second penalty kick of the day to send the game into overtime. The game-winner came at the foot of Cougar Matt Bessessen three minutes into the second OT.
"We had to play a man down for more than half the game and I'm proud of how hard our boys fought through that," commented Coach Lawson. "We left if all out on the field today."
HU keeper Drew Mattingly recorded ten saves. The Foresters are 3-11-2, (1-5-1 in the MCC). They must beat visiting Marian University on Wednesday to keep their post season hopes alive.
