HU golf wraps up season with 4th place finish in league tourney

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - It was a rough start to the 2013 Crossroads League Golf Championships for the Foresters as they found themselves 42 strokes out of first after day one at Orchard Ridge Country Club in Fort Wayne.

Huntington shot an uncharacteristic 623 (311, 312) after their first two rounds on Monday to claim the No. 5 spot in the league standings.

Things didn’t get much better for Coach Green’s squad on Tuesday as they turned in 316 to finish in a tie for fourth with Indiana Wesleyan University. The top ten individual finishers were named to the All-Conference team and for the first time since 2003, no Foresters earned All-Conference accolades.

Mickey Belt paced HU with a 232 (78, 77, 77). Rylan Porter (80, 78, 77) and Devin Dale (78, 76, 81) each carded a 235 while Josh Teulker turned in a 242 (78, 83, 81). Lance Hoch rounded out Huntington’s scoring with a 244 (77, 81, 86).

The Knights of Marian University successfully defended their championship from a year ago, earning the title by 18 strokes. They posted an 888 followed by Bethel (906), Taylor (914), HU (939), Indiana Wesleyan (939), Saint Francis (945), Grace (949), Spring Arbor (954), Mount Vernon (954) and Goshen (1,036).
