Behind solid free throw shooting and scrappy defensive pressure, the Foresters (7-3, 1-1) cruised past the Lancers of Grace College 82-62.
After giving up a three on the opening possession, the Foresters clamped down defensively limiting the Lancers to 20 points for the rest of the half. HU forced Grace into 14 first half turnovers, four of which were steals by Ryleigh Carr. The Foresters took their first double-digit lead at 22-11 when Sarah Miller fed Jenna Donaldson for a layup with just under nine minutes left in the half. Both teams played even until the halftime buzzer with HU maintaining the 34-23 lead.
As is a regular challenge by Coach Culler, the Foresters won the first 5 minutes of the second half, outscoring the Lancers 14-7 to take a 48-30 lead. It would be a lead the Foresters would hold onto for the rest of the contest. For the half the Foresters shot 55.6% from the field and knocked down 26 of 31 free throws for 87.5%.
Donaldson led all scorers with 19 points. Four other Foresters finished in double digits. Courtney Beerbower and Lauren Meese each chipped in 13 points. Kelsey Green came off the bench to score 11 points and grab six rebounds while Miller tossed in 10 points. The Lancers were led by Kayla Skaggs with 10 points.
