UPLAND, Ind. - The HU women’s soccer team opened up conference play with a big 1-0 win over Taylor University under the lights Saturday night. For the Trojans (7-2, 0-1), it was only their second loss of the season while the Foresters improve to 2-7 overall, 1-0 in league play.

While HU managed only three shots on the night, Olivia Knispel made the most of her opportunity just before halftime when she calmly trapped and ripped a rebound off a free kick from over 20 yards out. Not only was it her first collegiate score, but it also proved to be the game-winner as neither team found back netting the rest of the way.

Most impressive about Saturday’s outing was Huntington’s defense that held Molly Drooger, the NAIA’s leading scorer, to just one shot in the contest. The Trojans finished with 11 shots, six of which were on frame.

Caitlin Adams was fantastic in goal, making several beautiful saves to secure the shutout. She finished with six saves to log her second win of the season.

“The girls continue to impress me with their mental toughness,” said Coach Tillett. “They were the definition of scrappy and fought every minute for every ball. It is a great win over a great team!”

HU takes the field again on Tuesday when they host Indiana Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
