The Huntington University softball
team fell to Manchester College 4-3 in extra innings in the opener of Thursday night's doubleheader before bouncing back to win the nightcap 7-6 in extra innings.
After Manchester scored all four of its runs over the seventh and eighth innings to steal game one, the Foresters notched a late rally of their own to win game two.
Trailing by one entering the bottom of the seventh, Katie Bowers smacked a triple, and Kate Dwyer followed with a sacrifice fly to knot the score.
Abby Sroufe and Melissa Werling executed a first-and-third double steal to plate the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, as Sroufe snuck home from third.
Bowers finished the nightcap with three hits. Brita Kuiper and Werling added two hits apiece. Molly Long picked up the win on the mound, tossing two scoreless innings of relief.
The Foresters won despite committing 11 errors. Huntington committed only one error in the opener, but blew a 2-0 lead by allowing the Spartans to plate two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Dwyer had two hits in a losing effort and was the only HU player with multiple hits.
