The Foresters played two doubleheaders on the weekend sweeping Manchester College 8-5 and 5-0 and splitting with Anderson University with a 4-0 win and a 3-2 loss.
On Friday at Manchester, HU scored a pair of runs in four different innings to put away the Spartans in game one. Brittney Bateman and Brita Kuiper both had three hits in the contest and Kuiper led the team with two RBI.
Manchester scored twice in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2, but the Foresters quickly retaliated with two in the top of the third and remained in the lead the rest of the way. The Spartans tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but three runs was where the rally attempt was halted.
Ashley Scally recorded the victory on the mound for HU. She threw four innings and allowed two runs, neither of which was earned, on a hit and a walk while striking out four.
In the nightcap, Molly Long had a dominant performance on the mound for the Foresters. She shut out the Spartans allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out seven. HU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but didn't score again until the sixth when three runs crossed the plate. The Foresters added a final insurance run in the seventh for the 5-0 victory. Brittany Gower led HU at the plate with two doubles in the game.
In Saturday's opener at Anderson, Jeanine Vaszari delivered the fatal blow in the Foresters' 4-0 win with a three-run double in the top of the second. HU tacked on another run in the fifth when Gower tripled to lead off the inning and Ashley McCann singled to left to drive her in.
Lauren Ward made it back-to-back one-hit shutouts for HU in the win. She walked four and struck out 14 in seven innings of work.
The difference in the second game was a two-run homerun by the Raven's Chelsie Haines in the bottom of the third. The blow recaptured a one-run lead for Anderson at 3-2 which held over the final four innings.
Long took the loss for the Foresters. She allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six. McCann was the only HU hitter with two hits in the game.
The Foresters concluded their regular season schedule with a 26-16 record and will be the #4 seed in the MCC Tournament hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 28-29.
