LAKELAND, Fla. - The HU baseball team wrapped up their time in Florida by suffering a 3-1 loss to North Central College (IL) Saturday morning before making the long trek back to Indiana.
The Foresters end the week with an overall record of 6-12.
After scoring 14 runs in their doubleheader less than 24 hours earlier, HU’s bats were comparatively much quieter against the Cardinals as Coach Frame’s squad managed only six hits and touched home just once in the nine-inning outing.
Huntington’s lone run came in the fourth when Avery Sneed singled in Dalton Combs who had reached on a walk earlier in the inning and advanced to second on Michael Crowely’s base poke to short. It was the first score of the contest but North Central was quick to answer in their half of the frame to knot things up at 1-1.
The Cardinals went on to take the lead in the sixth and then added an insurance run in the eighth to secure the win.
Blake Ayers paced HU with two hits. Derek McKinney took the loss for Huntington. He pitched the first five innings, scattering seven hits, two runs and five walks while striking out four, before giving way to Brock Gower who pitched the final three innings.
The Foresters now turn their attention to conference play where they are slated to play at Marian University on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
