Huntington, Ind. - Huntington University men’s soccer coach Russ Lawson has announced that Matt Hall has signed a national letter of intent to continue his soccer career as a Forester this fall. Hall is the first HU men's soccer signing for the 2011 recruiting class.
This California native is currently finishing up his senior season for Bonita Vista High School. Once his high school season finishes, he will jump back into the club scene to anchor the backline for Nott’s Forest. Hall, as team captain, has played a key role in Nott's success. His team, ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation, has won the San Diego Surf Cup and Slammers Classic.
"Matt has experienced a tremendous level of soccer while playing in southern California. This elite competition has prepared Matt well for the physical demands and pace of collegiate soccer," states Coach Lawson.
“Matt is a gifted defender who reads the game extremely well and has the ability to lock down opposing strikers. He is a competitor and is going to battle every time he laces his boots. Combine that with his intelligence, technical ability and willingness to get up the park, we are very confident Matt will have a very successful career at HU.”
Hall has also experienced much success in the classroom, having been named to the San Diego Union Tribune’s All- Academic Team. As an HU honor student, he is leaning towards studying exercise science or psychology.
Matt is the son of Norma Hall from Bonita, California.
