HUNTINGTON, Ind. - It was the second draw in as many for the contests for the HU men’s soccer team as they ended in a 0-0 stalemate against Goshen College Tuesday afternoon at King Stadium.

The Foresters are currently sixth in the conference standings with a league record of 1-1-2, 5-5-2 overall.

“I was encouraged by our cohesiveness and willingness to fight to the end,” said Coach Lawson. “It was good to see our defense come through for us even when we weren’t at the top of our game offensively.

“We were able to generate enough opportunities to get the win tonight.”

While both teams battled until the bitter end, indicative of the highly competitive nature of the Crossroads League, the game remained scoreless after a pair of extra periods. HU had several opportunities and none more golden than Joey Newbery’s rocket with less than five ticks remaining in regulation that Goshen keeper Dean Nafziger was able to deflect out of bounds as the buzzer sounded.

The game marked Huntington’s first shutout of the season. Drew Mattingly went the distance in goal to finish with seven saves.

HU is back in action on Saturday when they head to Marian to play under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
