Huntington University incoming freshman Shelby New finished 22nd at the 2013 USBC North Pointe Junior Gold Championships in Detroit, Mich., held earlier this month.
The Indianapolis, Ind. native missed advancing to the round of 16 by 62 pins. Competing in the U20 Division, New averaged 193.1 through 25 games over a four-day span. She competed against 573 of the top high school and collegiate bowlers from all fifty states, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Competitors bowled on four very difficult WTBA lane patterns of Beijing, London, Los Angeles and Mexico City. After the first two days of competition which included 15 games, the field was cut to the top 86 and then trimmed to 64 after another day of five more games. The top two females and top two males earned an automatic spot on the Junior Team USA.
Other HU bowlers competing at Nationals but not advancing past the third day were returning Foresters Casandra Griffith and Connor Brown, and incoming freshmen Brooke Ewing, Leigha Lindsey, Daniel Miller and James Knapp.
