Peregrines mount comeback for 2-1 win over HUWS

HAMMOND, Ind. - The Forester women’s soccer team got off to a quick start when Courtney Baker chased down Paige Coolman’s wind-aided punt from goal, outran a defender and took Purdue Calumet keeper Erika Brinkman one-on-one for her third goal of the season to give HU a 1-0 advantage after just 12 minutes of play.

Unfortunately, the Foresters would generate ten more shots, six of which were on goal, to the Peregrines’ 12 but couldn’t find back netting again while their hosts scored twice to mount an impressive comeback for the 2-1 victory.

The equalizer came at the foot of Iridiana Mendoza in the 26th minute and then twenty minutes into the final stanza Vanessa Hernandez logged the game-winner to send HU home with their second loss of the season.

Coolman went the distance in goal for the loss, giving up two goals while registering six saves.

Baker finished with six shots while classmate Kaitlyn Dreman tallied two.
