Sheckler named Forester Athlete of Week

 Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 26-March 4. Men’s basketball junior Doug Sheckler earned the honor for his outstanding effort during the week’s competition.

Sheckler, an elementary education major from Columbia City, Ind., (Columbia City High School) turned in an outstanding individual performance in the championship game of the Mid-Central Conference tournament. Sheckler, who had hit a total of eight three-pointers during the regular season, went 6-7 from behind the arc and finished with a team-high 26 points to help lead the Foresters to a 93-83 victory over Indiana Wesleyan University. The win gave Huntington the MCC’s automatic berth in the NAIA National Tournament. The 4-seeded Foresters (29-4) will take on Florida Memorial University (15-12) in opening round action on March 8 at 5:45 p.m. (CST).
