Sparks named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of February 24, 2014. Women’s track freshman Christine Sparks earned the honor for her performance at the DePauw Indoor Classic over the weekend.

Running the 1,000 meters for the first time this year, Sparks not only clocked the second fastest time in HU school history, the rookie also punched her ticket to the 2014 NAIA Indoor National Track & Field Championships. The Bloomington native (Bloomington North HS) ran a 3:02.37 which places her 20th among the list of national qualifiers.

The 2014 National Indoor Track & Field Championships are slated for March 6-8 in Geneva, Ohio.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
