Junior Kendra Stahl scored a career-high 17 points on 8-12 shooting to lead the Foresters (9-5) to a 60-40 win over Spring Arbor University (4-11). With the victory, HU won the consolation bracket of the St. Xavier Christmas Tournament.
The Foresters knocked down their first five shots of the contest to take an 11-2 lead, but then cooled off dramatically the rest of the half. Fortunately, HU’s defense was up to the challenge. While the Foresters struggled to put points on the board, their defense held the Cougars to just 20 points on 33% shooting for the half. Stahl, with 10 first half points and Brumbaugh, with eight, were the bright spots offensively for HU as they combined for 18 of the Foresters 28 first half points.
In the second half, offense continued to be a struggle for both teams with Spring Arbor suffering through a six minute scoring drought and the Foresters with a five-minute dry spell. The Cougars were still within single digits at 47-38 with just under four minutes to go when an Erica Yost trey seemed to resuscitate HU. The Foresters outscored the Cougars 10-2 down the stretch for the final 20 point margin.
Stahl took game high honors with her 17 points. She was joined in double figures by Brumbaugh with 12 and Amy Berry with 11. Jen Moor led the Cougars with 13 points. Moor and Berry were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
