Campbellsville, Ky. - Campbellsville University baseball continued its winning ways on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over Huntington, 10-0 and 4-1.
Despite scattering six hits in Saturday’s opener, the Foresters came up empty on the scoreboard. Brandon Van Matre paced HU with a pair of singles.
After limiting the Tigers to four hits and one run through the first four innings, the wheels came off for the Foresters in the fifth as Campbellsville collected four hits and took advantage of four HU throwing errors to net six runs. The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the sixth on their way to the 10-0 blowout.
In four innings of work, Xyan Adkisson gave up seven hits and five runs and was credited with the loss.
In the final game of the weekend, Campbellsville proved why they’re the preseason favorite in the Mid-South Conference by taking control early and holding on for the 4-1 win to improve to 9-0 on the year.
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings of play before Hammel notched HU’s only run of the day in the fifth by sending his first pitch over the left field fence. HU’s only other hit came by way of Drew Adams’ single in the second.
John Ripke took the loss for HU. In 3.2 innings on the mound, he gave up four runs on seven hits.
Huntington (0-4) hits the road again this weekend to face Asbury College for a pair of doubleheaders.
