Ward, Diehl earn Athlete of Week honors

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of March 30-April 5. Women’s softball senior Lauren Ward and men’s track junior Luke Diehl earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Lauren Ward, an economics and finance major from Butler, Ind. (Eastside High School), earned three wins on the mound for Huntington during the week. She scattered six earned runs over 20 innings of work and struck out 32 batters for an average of 10.7 per game. She allowed just 13 hits and currently is 7-3 on the season. The Foresters (14-8, 2-2) return to action on April 8 when they host Goshen College at 3 p.m.

Luke Diehl
Luke Diehl, a youth ministries major from Bluffton, Ind. (Norwell High School), had an outstanding individual performance at the Manchester College Track Invitational. He ran away from the competition in the 3000 meter steeplechase to win the event with a time of 9:35.50 finishing 26 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the race. His time also qualified him to compete in the NAIA Outdoor track & Field National Championships in May. Huntington will next compete at the Indiana Little State Championships in Marion, Ind., on April 11 at 9 a.m.
