Ballinger to give presentation at Nappanee library

Huntington, Ind.—Bryan Ballinger, assistant professor of digital media arts for Huntington University, will give a presentation at 2 p.m. on May 4 at the Nappanee Public Library. The library is located at 157 N. Main St., Nappanee, Ind.

His lecture will cover his journey for creating art for children’s media.

Ballinger’s specialty is in the design and illustration work of digital media including 3-D computer generated imagery skills in modeling, texturing, lighting and animation. He has more than 13 years of experience in this area focusing on graphics for CD-ROM titles, web, film, video and print.

He was a freelance illustrator with clients such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Disney and Harley Davidson. He also was the lead 3-D designer for five years at Big Idea Productions, the creators of “VeggieTales.” Before that, Ballinger spent six years as a senior designer and illustrator at the Microsoft Corporation where he was awarded a patent for the development of multimedia buttons.

Ballinger earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from Columbus College of Art and Design and finished his Master of Fine Arts from Lesley University in June of 2006.

Featured in D’Artist, a book on the best of digital painting

Featured artist on the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators’ Web site

His “Gruntly Carving” illustration was accepted in Spectrum’s 10th Annual Best in Contemporary Fantasy Art.

“Tusky the Unwakeable Walrus,” a creation by Ballinger, is in the 2003 Society of Illustrators Biennial Dimensional Salon in New York City.

Tusky also was chosen to be included in “Expose 1,” a book on the history of the best in computer graphics.

Two-time winner of 3-D Design magazine’s Big Kahuna Award in the print category

An honorable mention award in the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators third illustration contest.
