Forester Lecture Series to discuss liberal arts higher education

Forester Lecture Gregory, Huntington UniversityHuntington, Ind. — Marshall Gregory, the Harry Ice Professor Chair of English, Liberal Education, and Pedagogy at Butler University in Indianapolis, will be the first featured speaker of the 2010-2011 Forester Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Sept. 9. The lecture will take place in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the Huntington University campus.

Gregory, an accomplished author and scholar, will address contemporary issues and problems in the liberal arts tradition in higher education. His lecture is titled, “Getting a Proper View of Liberal Education: Why Do Teachers and Programs Mostly Look in the Wrong Directions?”

Gregory received his PhD from the University of Chicago, and has published numerous articles on literary theory, liberal education, pedagogy, writing and professional issues. He has served as national director of the Lilly Endowment Post-Doctoral Teaching Awards Program as well as president of several professional associations of scholars.

Huntington University presents the Forester Lecture Series each semester. The lectures are designed to bring interesting individuals and topics to the attention of students and the regional community. The Forester Lecture Series is free and open to the public.
