HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Vainglory was a powerful vice. Known as one of the original deadly sins, it is now largely forgotten. At 7 p.m. March 25, Dr. Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung will discuss “When Image is Everything: The Vice of Vainglory” during Huntington University’s Forester Lecture
DeYoung is a professor of philosophy at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She is the author of “Glittering Vices: A New Look at the Seven Deadly Sins and Their Remedies.” Her lecture will discuss the forgotten vice of vainglory as well as how it can still be used as a powerful diagnostic tool in a culture saturated with marketing, social media and other forms of publicity-seeking self display.
The Forester Lecture Series is designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community.
The Forester Lecture Series at Huntington University is coordinated by Dr. David Alexander, associate professor of philosophy. For more information, contact Alexander at 260-359-4305 or visit www.huntington.edu/fls
