Huntington, Ind.—Huntington College 1996 graduate, Angela Atalla, will present the semester's first Forester Lecture on Monday, October 8. This free presentation will be held in the Habecker Dining Commons Banquet Rooms at 7 p.m., and is open to the public.

Her presentation is titled, “On the Front Lines: Christian in the Broadcast Media.” Atalla is an evening news anchor for WNWO TV, NBC-24 in Toledo, Ohio.

“It’s a cut-throat and competitive business, where Christians are few and far between,” said Atalla, who graduated from HC with degrees in Broadcast Communication and History. “Still, I have high hopes for achievement. God’s given me talent and drive, and opened opportunities for me that I never could have imagined.”

“Television news has offered me the opportunity to meet so many interesting people and learn so many new things,” she added. Some of those interesting people Atalla has interviewed include Charlton Heston, Ted Koppel and Danny Glover. She did a series of breaking news reports on the largest meat recall in U.S. history because of possible e-coli contamination. The station went on to win a first place Associated Press award for coverage of the story.

Atalla also hosts “Your Faith,” a special news segment that airs Monday’s at 6 p.m. and Thursday’s at 11 p.m. The stories focus on religious-based issues and religious events around the Toledo area.

In addition to Atalla’s moments as a broadcast journalist, she has the privilege of serving as celebrity chairperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes. JDF’s Walk is the fastest growing fundraiser in the world and the largest fundraiser for JDF. The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk is another event Atalla donates her time to as the media spokesperson. She is also involved with the Greater Toledo Association of Arab-Americans as toastmistress of their 12th annual banquet, “An evening with Jamie Farr.”

Prior to taking the WNWO job, Atalla and her husband, Brandon, lived in Fayetteville, Ark. She worked at the ABC affiliate in Fayetteville as the morning anchor/reporter. Before that, she served as an anchor/reporter in Lima, Ohio. And during her senior year at Huntington College, her eyes were opened to the business of broadcasting through an internship at the ABC affiliate in Fort Wayne.

Huntington College presents the Forester Lecture Series each semester. The free, public lectures are designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community.
