Abel, Njeri named Forester Athletes of Week

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Women’s tennis sophomore Erica Abel and men’s cross country junior Joseph Njeri earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Erica Abel, an elementary education and public relations double major from Grandville, Mich. (Grandville High School), continued her solid play for the Foresters this season with two more wins this week. Although Abel has played #6 singles most of the season, this week she earned her victories at #3 (6-1, 6-1) in Huntington’s 9-0 sweep of Goshen and at #5 (6-3, 6-3) in the Foresters’ 7-2 win over St. Francis. Abel is currently 8-2 in singles on the year. The Foresters conclude their regular season with a match at Anderson University on Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.

Joseph Njeri
Joseph Njeri, a sociology major from Nairobi, Kenya, had a stellar performance in Huntington University’s E. DeWitt Baker Cross Country Invitational. Njeri won the event with a time of 26:33 and helped lead the NAIA 8th-rnaked Foresters to the team title with a score of 16. The Foresters will take a week off and then return to action on Oct. 18 at Manchester College at 11 a.m.
