Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21. Women’s volleyball junior Kayley Cervenka and men’s cross country sophomore Joseph Njeri earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Kayley Cervenka, a middle grades mathematics major from Francesville, Ind. (West Central High School), had an exceptional week for the Forester volleyball team. In Huntington’s only match of the week against conference foe, Spring Arbor University, Cervenka put down 13 kills and added two blocks to help lead the Foresters to the 30-24, 30-22, 30-23 victory. Huntington (18-6, 4-2) returns to action when they host Grace College on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
Joseph Njeri
Joseph Njeri, a sociology major from Nairobi, Kenya, helped lead the Foresters to a second place finish in the Mid-Central Conference championships by winning the men’s 8k race. His time of 25:50.87 was his best performance of the season and garnered him MCC All-Conference honors. Huntington will next compete in the NAIA Regional VIII Championships on Nov. 3 at Aquinas College at 11 a.m.
