Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of April 3-9, 2006. Men’s track freshman Lucas Beach and women’s tennis freshman Kendra Ganz earned the honor for their excellent efforts during the weeks’ competitions.
Kendra Ganz
Kendra Ganz, a business major from Syracuse, Ind. (Wawasee High School), went 4-0 on the week for the Forester tennis team. In Huntington’s 7-2 win over Earlham College, Ganz teamed with Stephanie Strong for the 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles and then won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. In Saturday’s 5-4 victory over the University of St. Francis, she and Strong got the lone doubles win 8-4 again at No. 1 doubles and then pulled off the three-set (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) win in singles play. Huntington will next travel to Taylor University on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 4:30 p.m.
Lucas Beach
Lucas Beach, a Bible and religion and physical education double major from Lucerne, Ind. (Pioneer High School), won the shot put event at the Indiana Intercollegiate Little State Championships with his throw of 51’ 1.75”. Beach also qualified to compete in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May with his winning mark. The Foresters will be back in action on Thursday, April 13, 2006, when they host Bethel College in a dual meet at 2 p.m.
