Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of October 3-9, 2005. Soccer sophomore Sarah Kaufman and men’s golf senior Andrew Porterfield earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.
Sarah Kaufman
Sarah Kaufman, a sophomore from Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Central High School), helped lead the Foresters to a 1-0-1 week with her five goals in the two matches. In Huntington’s 2-2 tie with Marian College, Kaufman scored a goal in each half to pull the Foresters even at 2-2 to avoid a loss on the road. On Saturday, her hat trick carried Huntington to the 3-1 win over Taylor University. The Foresters are now 5-6-1 on the season and next host conference rival Bethel College on Tuesday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m.
Andrew Porterfield
Andrew Porterfield, a computer science major from Marion, Indiana (Eastbrook High School), capped off his final Mid-Central Conference Tournament with a two-over par 74 in his final round. His 230 tournament total moved him into a tie for seventh in the individual standings earning him MCC All-Conference honors for the third time in his career. The Foresters finished fifth in the team standings and qualified for the NAIA Region 8 Tournament in the spring.
