Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-14. Women’s tennis freshman Haley Neiderhiser and men’s tennis freshman Jameel Brenneman earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Haley Neiderhiser, a youth ministries and Spanish double major from Cedar Rapids, Iowa (John F. Kennedy High School), helped lead Huntington to a 2-0 week in conference play by winning all four of her matches during the week. In singles’ play, Neiderhiser beat Spring Arbor’s Rachel Kadafer 7-5, 6-2 and downed Marian’s Dana Reynolds 6-1, 6-4. In doubles, Neiderhiser teamed with Joni Holsem at #2 doubles for the 9-7 victory over Spring Arbor and 9-8 win over Marian. The Foresters (5-2, 3-1) return to action on Sept. 16 when they host Grace College at 3 p.m.
Jameel Brenneman
Jameel Brenneman, a broadcasting and journalism major from St. Marys, Ohio (Memorial High School) won three of his four matches during the week’s competition. Against Spring Arbor, Brenneman teamed with his brother Jonathan for the 8-6 victory at #2 doubles and he won 7-5, 7-5 at #3 singles. In Saturday’s match against Marian, he went 6-3, 6-0 for his second singles’ win of the week. The Foresters (1-5, 1-3) will next host Grace College at 3 p.m. on Sept. 16.
