Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of November 7-13, 2005. Volleyball sophomore Stephanie Stearns and men’s basketball junior Alex Kock earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.
Stephanie Stearns, a sophomore from New Castle, Ind. (New Castle Chrysler High School), had an outstanding season as the Huntington University Foresters’ defensive specialist. Her team-high 6.6 digs per game was tops in the Mid-Central Conference and her .44 aces per game placed her in the top 10 in the MCC. Her performance garnered her First Team MCC All-Conference honors and the Libero of the Year award.
Alex Kock
Alex Kock, a physical education and health major from Auburn, Ind. (DeKalb High School), averaged a double-double of 24.3 points and 10 rebounds in Huntington’s four games during the week. In their season-opening 102-57 win over Urbana University, Kock scored 18 points and had nine rebounds. Against NCAA Division I Indiana University-Purdue University (Fort Wayne), he took game-high honors with 28 points on 12-18 shooting and grabbed 9 boards in the 72-64 win. At the Maple City Classic in Adrian, Mich., he averaged 25.5 points and 11 rebounds in the two games. Huntington (3-1) returns to action on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, when the Foresters host Indiana Institute of Technology in their home opener at 7 p.m.
