Trio Earns Forester Athletes of Week Honors

Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of March 2-8, 2009. Women’s basketball junior Jenna Donaldson and two men’s track seniors, Lucas Beach and Nick Johnson earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Jenna Donaldson, an entrepreneurial/small business management major from Auburn, Ind. (DeKalb High School), helped lead the Foresters to the Mid-Central Conference Tournament title with her performance in Monday’s championship game. Donaldson scored 19 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to turn a 25-25 tie at intermission into a 65-60 victory over Taylor University. She also added five rebounds and four steals in the contest. Huntington (24-6) returns to action at the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m. CST against Jamestown College (ND).

Lucas Beach, a Bible and religion and physical education double major from Lucerne, Indiana (Pioneer High School) competed at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships on the weekend and earned his third Indoor All-America honor in the shot put with his toss of 53-08.25. His fourth place finish was the best of his career after placing fifth in the event as a freshman and sixth as a sophomore.

Nick Johnson, an exercise science major from Huntington, Indiana (Huntington North High School) also turned in an outstanding individual performance at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Johnson set a personal record in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:47.16 on his way to a fourth place finish in the event. His top six finish earned him his first NAIA Indoor Track All-America honor. This past fall, Johnson was also a NAIA All-American in cross country.
