Huntington, Ind. - The Forester baseball team (3-12) wrapped up spring break play by avenging yesterday's loss to Tiffin University with a 7-2 win against the Dragons Friday morning.
After outhitting Tiffin yesterday but coming up short on the scoreboard, the Foresters banged out seven hits and took advantage of three Dragon errors to score seven runs while limiting their opponent to two runs on seven hits.
HU got on the board in the second inning when Jamon Hammel and Marc Bowers each singled to put runners in scoring position. Brandon Van Metre's sacrifice bunt and Josh Lanphier's single down the left field line brought two runs across the plate to give HU a 2-0 lead.
The Foresters added another run in the following inning and the Dragons got one back in the sixth but HU blew the game wide open in the seventh. After two Foresters reached base on a hit pitch and throwing error, Adam Christner's two-run double pushed HU's lead to 5-1. Eric Schultz followed that up with a shot to right to add two more runs as Huntington cruised to the 7-2 win.
Bowers gave up one run on four hits and one walk while striking out four in eight innings to pick up the win. Derek McKinney came in for relief and pitched a one-run inning on three hits while striking out two. Schultz and Christner each finished with two RBI on a round tripper and double respectively to lead HU offensively.
